What does SquarePeg do?

SquarePeg is a web based marketplace connecting corporate talent with businesses that need flexible business support or offer flexible work opportunities.


SquarePeg represents talent across a variety of roles and industries, and aims to match the business support needs of small to medium businesses, with the professional talent around them that want to work flexibly around their family and lifestyle commitments.

What type of clients use SquarePeg?

Hirers can be any type of business – small, medium or large. We have candidates looking for part time, project, rolling and remote roles across a diverse range of skills and experience. Our objective is to connect candidates with businesses who see the value of hiring a flexible worker.

How much does it cost to join?

SquarePeg is a freemium model marketplace. It is free for hirers and candidates to join. 

What are the features of SquarePeg?

Our platform manages the entire hiring process: candidate matching, interviewing, time sheets, invoicing and payments for both hirer and talent.


Can I manage my own profile?

Yes, upon sign up everyone is issued with their own login details.


Candidates can login and update, amend or change their details at any time.


Candidates can pause their profiles if they are not currently looking for work.

Will my profile be live immediately?

Not immediately. Once a new profile is added, our Community Managers review the profile and may reach out to you for further information or to make sure you are the right type of talent for this platform. We want to ensure we can match you with work opportunities, and that you have the type of skills, availability and experience that our clients are looking for.

Do I need an ABN or be GST registered to work as a Contractor?

All Contractors require an ABN to work through the platform. You do not need to be GST registered unless you expect to earn in excess of $75,000 per annum.

Am I employed by SquarePeg?

No, by registering on the platform candidates are not an employee of SquarePeg. Contractors must work under their own ABN and are considered to be Self employed Contractors who will handle and be responsible for their own tax and superannuation matters.


Any payments made to Contractors that are GST inclusive are up to a Contractor to report this GST if earning over the tax threshold of that financial year. If you are not GST registered SquarePeg will collect and repay the GST for the work.


The Contractors are not considered to be employees of SquarePeg and are therefore not entitled to any benefits of an employee, including but not limited to holidays, sick leave, personal leave or insurances.


SquarePeg is not responsible for the Contractor whilst on the Client premises or working remotely, and no insurances or workcover commitments are made to the Contractor.


Contractors are hired for their own skills and experience by the Client, and do not act as representatives of SquarePeg at any time.

How do I get paid?

If you are hired as a Contractor you will need to complete a weekly timesheet through the SquarePeg platform. You will be paid one week in arrears directly in to your nominated bank account.


If you are hired in an Employee role you will be an employee of the hirer’s company and they will be responsible for your payments.


Do I have to provide my credit card details to join?

No, both Hirers and Candidates can setup profiles for free. 


If you are a Hirer and ready to create a job, you'll be prompted to add your credit card details at the time of job creation. Creating a job is FREE but we ask you to provide your credit card details to verify your payment details should we successfully match you with a candidate.


SquarePeg have a 'No Match, No Fee Guarantee'. 

Hirers are only ever charged when SquarePeg successfully place a candidate in a job.


All credit card details are held securely by Stripe, our payment gateway. SquarePeg do not hold any credit card information.

What does it cost to use SquarePeg?

Joining SquarePeg as a hirer is free. Hirers create jobs in the system that matches suitable candidates.


Each job is valid and open for 30 days during which time you can search and connect with an unlimited amount of candidates.

When I find a suitable candidate what are SquarePeg’s costs to hire?

SquarePeg charge a service fee for placements as follows:


  • Employee – SquarePeg have a tiered pricing structure when it comes to permanent jobs – so hirers know the costs up front and are considerably lower than traditional costs to hire talent.


<$50K = $3000 (ex GST)

$50-70K = $5000
$70-90K = $7000
>90K = $9000


  • Contractor – all Contractors work through the platform. SquarePeg charge a service fee of 15% commission on top of the Contractors quote or hourly rate (ex GST).

Do I require insurances for Contractors who work remotely?

All Contractors shall maintain adequate insurance coverage and minimum coverage limits for their business as required by applicable law and regulation, including Workers Compensation insurance. Contractors are also required to manage and be responsible for their own OH&S environments.

What happens if my employee doesn’t work out?

SquarePeg offer a 50% refund on permanent placement service fees if a candidate does not remain in the position past the three month probation period. This is a goodwill gesture, and at the discretion of SquarePeg depending on the circumstances of the position terminating.
